Tax Refunds for Healthcare Employees
Book an appointmentAre you a healthcare professional? If that’s the case, this one’s for you! Did you know that you’re probably owed money by the Revenue Commissioners that you’re not aware of?
Doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, occupational therapists, laboratory technicians, home caregivers, and others are among our tax rebate clients in the healthcare industry.
We all know that healthcare professionals are under a lot of stress, especially in the previous several months. That is why we have compiled a list of frequent tax credits claimed by medical staff, so you can start reclaiming the money you are entitled.
Expenses for healthcare workers are based on a flat rate.
If you work in the healthcare industry in Ireland, you may be able to claim tax credits on specific items that are necessary for your employment under the Flat Rate Expenses allowance
Expenses that healthcare practitioners commonly incur include:
- Expenses for uniforms or any other required clothing for your job
- Footwear or headgear is required.
- Materials, tools, and equipment required for your project
- Masks and gloves are examples of personal protective equipment
Expenses for medical and non-routine dental care:
Medical workers sometimes neglect their own health; yet, just because you work in the health field does not imply you will not suffer medical bills. There are several medical expenses for which you may be eligible for tax relief, including:
- Fees for doctors and consultants
- Prescriptions
- Prenatal and postnatal care
- Expenses for dental work that isn’t done on a regular basis
- Physiotherapy
- Psychological assistance
Medical expenses are reimbursed at a rate of 20% if you haven’t already claimed the money from insurance, the government, or another source of compensation.
Contributions to a long-term health plan
As a healthcare worker, you may be eligible to participate in an income continuation plan, which ensures that your income is maintained if you are unable to work due to injury or illness. If you enrol in such a plan, you may be eligible for a 10% tax break on the premiums you pay, assuming the plan is approved by the Revenue Commissioners.
Fees for tuition
Tax relief on tuition fees may be available to both full-time and part-time students, up to a maximum of €7,000 per course, per person, per academic year. This is a frequently overlooked tax break that tens of thousands of our healthcare customers are eligible for.
